Fischer ↔ wedge–dash template

Premium template. Preview and edit it free in MolDraw; downloading and exporting it is part of MolDraw Pro.
(R)-Lactic acid from Fischer projection to bow-tie wedges to a zigzag skeletal structure, R/S read straight from a Fischer projection, and the allowed and forbidden moves.
What the template shows
- Turn a Fischer cross into a 3D drawing and back, and the moves that keep or invert the configuration
- Converting (R)-lactic acid
- H toward you: anticlockwise, reversed to R
- (R)-lactic acid
- D-(−)-lactic acid
- rotated 180° in the plane
- (R): same compound
- H and OH swapped
- (S): the enantiomer
- Fischer to 3D: horizontal groups on wedges, vertical groups on hashes. Then turn the drawing freely in 3D.
- R/S straight from a Fischer projection: with H on a vertical bond (away), read 1 → 2 → 3 as usual; with H on a horizontal bond (toward you), reverse the answer.
- Allowed: rotating the projection 180° in the plane. Forbidden: rotating it 90° or lifting it out of the plane; both give the enantiomer.
- Swapping any two groups inverts the centre; two swaps restore it.
- Wedge = toward you, hash = away from you · every part of this figure is editable
Drawn with 6 atoms, 181 shapes – every one editable in MolDraw.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Fischer ↔ wedge–dash template free?
You can preview the Fischer ↔ wedge–dash template here and open and edit it in MolDraw for free. Downloading or exporting it is part of MolDraw Pro, together with the other premium templates.
Can I edit the Fischer ↔ wedge–dash template?
Yes. It opens as an ordinary MolDraw drawing, so every structure, arrow, label and colour can be changed, and you can add your own content around it.
Is the chemistry checked?
Every structure is checked with RDKit and every curly arrow passes MolDraw’s electron-flow audit. The sources used are listed on this page.
Are the R/S labels in the stereochemistry templates checked?
Yes. Every R/S and E/Z descriptor is computed with RDKit from the drawn structure, so the labels match the wedges and dashes.
