Transition-metal ions with NaOH and ammonia template

Premium template. Preview and edit it free in MolDraw; downloading and exporting it is part of MolDraw Pro.
A-level / IB / CBSE: test tubes in a rack showing Cu²⁺ with NaOH and with excess aqueous ammonia, Fe²⁺ and Fe³⁺ with NaOH, and a test solution with the reagent added dropwise from a pipette.
What the template shows
- Identify aqueous metal ions by the colour of the hydroxide precipitate and whether it dissolves in excess
- A few drops into about 2 cm³ of the test solution, shake, then add in excess
- Blue precipitate first, then a deep blue solution of [Cu(NH₃)₄(H₂O)₂]²⁺
- Pale blue precipitate, Cu(OH)₂; insoluble in excess NaOH
- Green precipitate, Fe(OH)₂; turns orange-brown at the surface as air oxidises it
- Orange-brown precipitate, Fe(OH)₃; insoluble in excess. Also: Cr³⁺ grey-green (dark green in excess NaOH, purple in excess NH₃); Mn²⁺ off-white, darkening in air

Frequently asked questions
Is the Transition-metal ions with NaOH and ammonia template free?
You can preview the Transition-metal ions with NaOH and ammonia template here and open and edit it in MolDraw for free. Downloading or exporting it is part of MolDraw Pro, together with the other premium templates.
Can I edit the Transition-metal ions with NaOH and ammonia template?
Yes. It opens as an ordinary MolDraw drawing, so every structure, arrow, label and colour can be changed, and you can add your own content around it.
Is the chemistry checked?
Every structure is checked with RDKit and every curly arrow passes MolDraw’s electron-flow audit. The sources used are listed on this page.
Can I edit the glassware?
Yes. Every piece of glassware is a MolDraw apparatus object: move, resize, recolour the liquid or swap a piece and the joints stay connected.
