Burette on a stand over a lidded polystyrene cup standing in a beaker, thermometer through the lid; plot temperature against volume added. A-level / IB.

What the template shows

  • Find the end point from the temperature, with no indicator
  • Stops the cup tipping
  • Reading the end point
  • Plot temperature against volume: it rises, then falls as cooler titrant goes in. Draw both lines; they cross at the end point
  • e.g. NaOH(aq), 3 cm³ at a time, 1 cm³ near the end point
  • Stir, then record the highest temperature after each addition (0.1 °C, or a temperature probe)
  • Burette tip and thermometer through the holes
  • Polystyrene cup
  • 25.0 cm³ of acid by pipette; insulated, so little heat is lost
  • Reaction setup
