What the template shows

  • Dissolve an exact mass of solid and make it up to an exact volume
  • In a beaker, in distilled water well short of the final volume; stir with a glass rod
  • Weigh by difference
  • Boat + solid, tip the solid into the beaker, reweigh the boat
  • Record every mass, to 2 or 3 decimal places
  • Pour the solution in, then rinse the beaker, rod and funnel into the flask
  • Volumetric flask
  • e.g. 100.0 or 250.0 cm³. Fill until the bottom of the meniscus sits on the mark at eye level; add the last drops with a dropping pipette
  • Wash bottle
  • Distilled water for every rinsing
