Products of combustion template

Premium template. Preview and edit it free in MolDraw; downloading and exporting it is part of MolDraw Pro.
Gases from a candle drawn by a water pump through an inverted funnel, a U-tube cooled in ice where water condenses, and limewater, which turns milky. GCSE / high school (CBSE).
What the template shows
- Show that a burning hydrocarbon gives water and carbon dioxide
- Inverted funnel
- Collects the hot gases from the flame
- Wax is a mixture of hydrocarbons. Any fuel burner can be tested the same way
- Water pump
- Draws the gases through; with no pump they would not flow. Run a control with no flame: limewater stays clear far longer
- Turns milky: carbon dioxide
- U-tube in ice
- Water condenses: turns white anhydrous copper(II) sulfate blue (or blue cobalt chloride paper pink); boils at 100 °C if pure
- Reaction setup
Drawn with 28 shapes – every one editable in MolDraw.
