Toluene C₆H₅CH₃: aromatic multiplet δ 7.1–7.3 (5H) and the benzylic CH₃ singlet δ 2.3 (3H), with integrals and assignments.

## What the template shows

- Aromatic protons near δ 7.2 and a benzylic methyl singlet near δ 2.3
- ¹H NMR spectrum of toluene
- toluene, C₇H₈ · CDCl₃, 400 MHz, typical values
- δ / ppm (chemical shift; downfield ← → upfield)
- Multiplets are drawn wider than to scale so the lines can be counted; the stepped traces are the integrals (height ∝ number of H).
- why there
- Ring current deshields aromatic H (δ 6.5–8.5); the o, m, p H overlap → multiplet
- Benzylic CH₃ (δ 2.2–2.5); no H on the ring carbon next to it → singlet
- Two signals, integrals 5 : 3 (C₇H₈).
- Aromatic H appear at δ 6.5–8.5 because the ring current deshields protons on the outside of the ring.
- In toluene the ortho, meta and para H have almost the same shift, so they overlap in one multiplet (m).
- A benzylic CH₃ (on the ring) comes at δ 2.2–2.5, downfield of an ordinary alkyl CH₃ (δ 0.9).
- A monosubstituted benzene ring usually integrates for 5H; a para-disubstituted ring often shows two doublets (2H each).
- Typical literature values; compare real spectra in SDBS · every part of this figure is editable

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the ¹H NMR of toluene template free?

You can preview the ¹H NMR of toluene template here and open and edit it in MolDraw for free. Downloading or exporting it is part of MolDraw Pro, together with the other premium templates.

### Can I edit the ¹H NMR of toluene template?

Yes. It opens as an ordinary MolDraw drawing, so every structure, arrow, label and colour can be changed, and you can add your own content around it.

### Is the chemistry checked?

Every structure is checked with RDKit and every curly arrow passes MolDraw’s electron-flow audit. The sources used are listed on this page.

### Are the spectra real data?

The spectra are schematic, drawn to the standard chemical shifts, splitting patterns and absorptions given in textbooks, so they are clear for teaching and exam practice.
