## What the template shows

- L-amino acids grouped by side chain, with three- and one-letter codes
- Nonpolar, aliphatic
- Polar, uncharged
- acidic (−) and basic (+) side chains
- Aspartic acid
- Glutamic acid
- All are L (S) except glycine (achiral) and cysteine, which is L but R by CIP because sulfur outranks the carboxyl.
- Essential (diet): His, Ile, Leu, Lys, Met, Phe, Thr, Trp, Val.
